Washington City Paper

I moved back to Washington (metro area) June 15, 2000, young, energetic, full of vinegar and other such things. I spent my first weekends riding the metro trains in and out of the District, taking photos and looking for jobs. Coming from a smaller town, the Washington City Paper was my first experience with City Papers. I fell in love. It had listings of all the clubs and shows, theaters and hip exhibits... and crazy cool articles that pushed the boundaries of what I deemed acceptable. It was edgy. Wow! I even played with notions of starting my own one day!

Standing outside the Dupont metro stop, a gentleman handed me a copy of the newest City Paper "The Education Issue". With articles on how to start your own for profit school, and how to take advantage of DCPS Special Education "gravy train" I found myself thoroughly disgusted. Am I getting old? Maybe. But my age is not the point. This is not the first time the shi - uh. I mean City Paper has attacked the District of Columbia Public School system including how to fire a teacher. Sure, the system is not perfect, but is this necessary? or even interesting? and if so.. to who? Not me.
