History and Evolution

projectkb.com as a web site took roots in a basement in north west Washington DC with a couple of good friends and some musical instruments. We had put together a rock and roll band and wanted to to start a web site so that we could promote the band and book some shows. In early 2006, we launched thefedmusic.com - and much like the band, the site had a real DIY feel. By 2007, the band disassembled and I moved into the world of Blogger launching Lifecycle of and American Rock and Roll Band as way to keep in touch with the local music scene. Lifecycle was fun and documented my musical excursions, but in the same vein was very limiting. A computer virus offered the perfect excuse to complete the cycle and projectkb.com was born.

With it's new look and broader scope, projectkb documented everyday life and a certain pursuit of happiness.

On September 25, 2007, I stepped on a plane and moved to West Africa as an English Language Fellow and brought the blog with me to document the journey secretly hoping to use the stories as a frame for a future book about my time in Togo.

In recent months, it has occurred to me that with the same amount of time and effort I have used to tell my story, I can make a positive impact on the world in which I live. But how? Then I stumbled upon Page 113 of The Guerilla Art Kit written by Keri Smith which challenges its readers to find solutions for various art projects:

“#11. Create a piece that answers the question, “if you only had one last chance to say something to the world, what would it be?”

Education is the answer.
