Reality Check

In case you have lost your perspective on life - or just need something to freak out about - I've put together a short list of global concerns that you can occupy your time with:

Feel free to choose one or more of these topics to get behind - or even research one on your own! Heck, you might even choose something more local such as:

You see... there are so many things in this world to be concerned about - worth talking about - crying about - or even FIGHTing about.

Chicken or the Egg?

Ryan Adams and the Cardinals were on David Letterman last night (June 28, 2007). Please note Ryan sporting a Casio Calculator watch. I have also heard rumors of someone in his entourage rocking an Ear X-tacy t-shirt. It's synergy.

Kakalaka

We went kayaking on the Potomac this afternoon. The water was very calm. Although the city is extremely humid on the streets today - you never would have known on the water. Here are some photos of the trip.

It Gives Them Wings!

Fox News never ceases to amaze me! When did illegal immigrants drinking red bull become a news story? Where are you Soulless Bureaucrat? I preferred the days of Aguilerian Hot Dogs.

Read it here.

Jazz at the Sculpture Garden

Last night we experienced Jazz at the Sculpture Garden (Every Friday at the National Gallery of Art). It's a real place to see and be seen. Get there early with a blanket and some food or you'll have to wait in line for pitchers of Sangria or beer! Get there even earlier (before 6) and you can have front row seats to live jazz with your feet in the pool!

Space

I took this photo, titled "Space",
with my picture phone in the fall of 2004, right after I moved to Petworth, Washington DC . This photo captures how I saw the street corner of 13th and Buchannon NW on an average night.

Too Swanky for Me

I promised myself I wouldn't be negative on this blog - but I have to admit that Tabaq is just too swanky for me. If I never go back - it will be too soon.

Teaching Mom

So, I am teaching my mom how to use Blogger because she might want to start her own blog.

Adkisson Greenbelt Park

For Fathers Day, my dad and I hit the trail on his Cannondales and hit the Horse Fork Trail and a good portion of the West and South Trails of the Adkisson Greenbelt Park. The ride was easy and beautiful. Rabbits and dragongflies were abundant. And near the end we even stopped at the Dairy Queen on 231 where mome met us for Blizzards!

*sigh* those were some fun days.

I'm going to figure it out.

The Sopranos

Is anybody else pumped to watch the series finale of the Sopranos tonight? I don't want to give anything away - but - I heard somebody important was going to get snuffed tonight. Any ideas?

I can't wait.

**POST-SHOW UPDATE**

Knocked Up

We went to see the new Katherine Heigl movie, Knocked Up, at the Dupont AMC tonight. I had no idea that this is pride week. I was surprised at the amount of profanity used - but have to admit that many parts of the movie were like pages from my *ahem* friends diary. A must see.

Old School

"Your new Realistic MPA-90 PA Amplifier gives you the 100 watts RMS of solidpower - plus the versatility you need in a professional sound system. Your MPA-90 is a great high fidelity PA amplifier too - its wide frequency response (30Hz to 20kHz) makes it suitable for music as well as for voice. Use it for live bands, in auditoriums, in a disco, at sports events, or for office paging systems - in any installations where great sound is needed."

Je ne mange pas le jambon!

Today I accepted a Fellowship sponsored by the Department of State and Georgetown University. The fellowship will send me to Lome, Togo (West Africa) for ten months to teach at L'Ecole Nationale d'Administration and American Corner at the University of Lome.

So... yeah. wow. I am scheduled to leave in September.
The World Awaits You

the warm world
sits and waits for the one
who is willing to stand up and take charge
to say that this is the way it is going to be
the world sits and waits for the one brave soul

(like the ant charging the spider
the mouse biting the cat)

I wait with the world
on nights like these wondering
if anyone will stand up
to take charge
and bite the cat
and fall sound asleep in the spider's web
with a smile

Market Inn

The speakeasy at 200 E street, SW DC, called the Market Inn, offers a fantastic Sunday Brunch. Made to order omelets and waffels. Riper than ripe fruit! Live Jazz. "Anonymous" could have warned me that the place is plastered with photos of nude women before I suggested it to my suegros - but they were cool with it. No harm. No foul.

Jamboree Record: 5-1-1

The bus arrived at 8:30 am. Game day logistics: 2 home teams, 19 students, 8 family members, 2 guest appearances, 7 soccer games, 4 opposing schools. and 1 coach - me. In the end, it was a beautiful day for soccer at my Alma Mater. We walked away from the day long tournament with two winning records. The boys soccer team ended at 3-0-1. The girls team ended at 3-1-0... and I walked away with this sweet rain jacket.
